Jonathan Drouin : la constance devra être au rendez-vous selon l'état-major
Le 15 juin 2017, Marc Bergevin faisait l'acquisition de l'attaquant Jonathan Drouin en retour de Mikhail Sergachev. Depuis ce temps, Drouin a fait vivre toutes sortes d'émotions chez les Montréalais, tant bonnes que mauvaises.
Depuis son arrivée avec le CH, celui-ci a récolté un total de 114 points en 185 parties. Ces statistiques peuvent sembler potables à première vue, mais considérant le talent qu'il possède, l'état-major des Canadiens peut se permettre d'en demander plus de sa part.
Drouin avait commencé la saison en lion en 2019-2020, il avait accumulé 7 buts et 8 mentions, soit 15 points, en 19 parties, avant de se blesser au bras gauche. Lors de son retour au jeu en février, il n'était plus l'ombre de lui-même. Il n'a récolté aucun point lors des 8 rencontres qu'il a disputé avant de se blesser à nouveau, mais cette fois à la hanche, ce qui a mis fin à sa saison régulière. Il fut alors limité à 27 parties.

Les entraîneurs de Drouin ont donné des explications à propos des déboires de leur attaquant.
"He [Drouin] had a good start to the season, and then he got hurt. He came back at a time of the year where everyone's playing some of their best hockey, and when you've been out for 2-3 months, it's hard to catch up to these guys, so I think he really struggled," Claude Julien said in October.
"Unfortunately, he got injured at a moment where he was playing very good last year. It prevented him from ending the season the way he would've wanted to," recently said associate coach Dominique Ducharme.
Malgré la fin de saison laborieuse de l'attaquant de 25 ans, il s'est toutefois repris en séries éliminatoires. Il fut invisible lors de la ronde qualificative face aux Penguins, laissant au passage la planète hockey sur son appétit. Cependant, nous avons pu observer un Jonathan Drouin changé lors de la série face aux Flyers de Philadelphie. Suite à son jumelage à Nick Suzuki, il a commencé à être de plus en plus impliqué dans toutes les facettes du jeu. Il a d'ailleurs récolté 6 points en 6 parties, lors de cette série, ce qui n'a pas laissé son patron indifférent.
"At the start, he had a bit of difficulty but I liked his second half at the bubble, not just the points, but the way he competed, the way he was ready to go more to the inside," Bergevin told TVA Sports.
Il a connu énormément de ratés en matière de constance depuis son arrivée à Montréal, ce qui ne passe pas sous le radar dans un marché aussi gros. Toujours est-il, son entraîneur Claude Julien ne se découragera pas, il travaillera avec son attaquant afin qu'il développe une stabilité dans son jeu.
"As coaches, you always try to encourage your guys and try to make them become as consistent as possible. And we know in a 82-game schedule it doesn't mean you're always going to be great, but what you want is an honest effort, you want to see the player trying, and some nights it goes better than others, and you can live with that stuff. With Jonathan that's what we're trying to get with him is that consistency in his game," Julien told NHL's The Rink Podcast
Julien espère également que ses récentes performances en série auront une influence sur son éventuelle saison.
"You hope that he's going to start the season on the right foot. You hope that he's going to build on that [post-season performance], and try to create some consistency in his game, and that's all I think that he needs to do. Some of it we can encourage, we can try and really push him to be that, at the same time, there's a big part of it that has to come from him, and realizing it and then putting in the effort to be that."
Marc Bergevin a été clair, les attentes du CH sont grandes envers Drouin en vue de la prochaine campagne.
"Our expectations from him are higher than what he has done so far [in Montreal]. He's still a young player. I want to see more, I think we will see more, I think [Drouin] has the potential to be more, and it's going to be up to him to show that," said the general manager on TSN 690.
Celui-ci a des aptitudes offensives impressionnantes lorsqu'il utilise ses meilleurs atouts sur la patinoire. Il crée du dynamisme lorsqu'il bouge constamment ses jambes.
Ses entraîneurs ont confiance qu'il pourrait être une bougie d'allumage pour son équipe s'il parvenait à utiliser son bagage d'habiletés de façon constante.
"It's important for him to be active on the ice. We see when he plays with dynamism, when his legs are moving, when he's near the puck, when he plays in the inside, we see the results that it brings, and Jonathan feels that too," said Ducharme.
